Here are some of the latest vidoes from the HALO-SMASH Tournament.

This was the Final match of HALO-SMASH. Team Fear was up over ToD 2 games to 1, but ToD being the winners bracket champions had to only win one 2-3 series to take the Tournament. Click the images to see how each map played out.

Finals Match

Write up

Well, our second tourney has come and past and this one was a real blast. Thanks to all the people involved, but it probably wouldn’t have gone as well if we hadn’t gotten the Student Center game room for the event.  Thanks to a little last minute persistence and a credit card number on my part we were able hold our tourney in a prime location.

HALO Set-up
SSBM Set-up

As indicated by the name the tournament was a Super Smash Brothers: Melee and Halo: CE combined tourney.  The format for the Smash portion was a 1v1, best out of three, double elimination, and the format for the Halo portion was comprised of a FFA to determine seeds and a 2v2 to determine a winner.

e

After a few last minute bracket changes the Smash tournament got under way with a total of 14 contestants that came from not only on our campus, but from all around Atlanta.   Imust say that there was a lot of hype and a little smack going around before the tournament, which made it very exciting for the participants as well as providing a tense but fun environmentto play in and watch.  The players that placed in the top three were:  E, Random Minority, and MagicJar.  These three, representing SPSU, played very well and left no stock untouchedthroughout the tournament.

Early in the tournament it was very unclear who would emerge victorious with the early first round loss by Random Minority.  While Random Minority battledhis way back to the semi-finals match, E and MagicJar dominated the winner’s bracket, but eventually E and MagicJar faced off in a very close match with E emerging victorious.  MagicJar then went on to face Random Minority in the final round of the loser’s bracket.  There again a very intense match ensued with Random Minority winning and moving on to face E in the final round of play.  In this final round Random Minority had to eliminate E twice to come out on top, but despite Random Minority’s resurgence in game play he could not defeat the ever dominating E. For all of those who play Smash and plan on coming to future tournaments, watch out for these three.

Midget Fury

Ah yes good ol’ Halo 1, where three shots, tactical nukes for grenades, and double melees run rampant.  Even before the actual tournament started there was a lot of heated practice sessions. This was a sign that this was going to be an excellent tournament.  Eight teams of two were going to square off in what was sure to be carnage.  We started off with a series of FFA’s in which TeRRoR from Team Midget Fury was the FFA winner.  The teams that placed in the top three were:  ToD, FEAR, and Midget Fury.  I was on Team Gun Abortion and had the pleasure of playing and getting stomped into the ground by Midget Fury in the first round (these guys were serious players).  Team ToD dealt lead to their victory in the winner’s bracket while in the last round of the loser’s bracket FEAR and Midget Fury did battle to see who would go up against ToD.  After the most intense round of play I have ever seen, Team FEAR emerged with smoking guns and a sore grenade throwing arms to face ToD for the finals.

While watching the final round, I found myself holding my breath.  These two teams battled ferociously.  I believe someone said “If anyone can beat ToD, it’s these two”.  The first map of the series was Hang Em' High, Fear swept this match from ToD 50-35. The second match was Prisoner and a real nail-biter. ToD had the win in the bag, with a lead of 49-41 over Fear and control of the Rockets. But Fear held the top level of Priz with authority picking ToD apart until the score was 49-48, and with a quick snipe by Mafioso and a rush with the newly spawnd rockets by Masta, Fear took the Prisoner match 50-49. The third match was a Ratrace, ToD came back with a strong vengence taking the map 50-36 with Gunzblazin going on a tear with an un-heard of 29-11 ratio. Map 4 was Chill-out, Fear had to take 2 games back-to-back to take the win, but ToD had other plans in mind. Fear still shaken-up by ToD's win on Ratrace Team ToDfell once again to ToD 50-34, Making TEAM ToD the HALO-SMASH 2v2 winners. After four matches ToD came out on top with I’m sure sweaty palms.

Well that’s it for this time around.  I encourage everyone to come and support Atlanta United Gamerz, if not to play then to watch because our events are sure make you leave saying “wow”.  Thanks again to all of the players of both tournaments and everyone that helped make this event successful.

A Change Of Rules:

We've heard everyone asking for it, so here it ts. The Super Smash Brothers portion of Halo Smash is being changed to 1 v 1 Double Elimination only. Thats right, now the entire tournament will be straight up skill. No ganging up on players or stupid deaths. Its all skill 1 v 1.
Due to time constraints, we're going to have to place a max registration limit on the tournament. (undecided)
So we suggest if you intend to compete, register as soon as you can.
-10/27/06

Prizes

Ok so it's not tens of thousands of dollars, but it will be worth fighting for (no pun intended).
Both Halo CE and Super Smash 1st place winners will receive Half the Pot in CASH.
Were expecting 20-40 players for the Super Smash 4MM/1v1
Thats any where from $50-$100 for first place.
Were Expecting 10-15 Teams for Halo CE: 2v2/FFA
Thats any where from $60 - $90 for First Place.
So practice Hard and prove your the SPSU - King Of Smash.
